Erotic Book in Windows Help format
by John Cleland (1709-1789)

"Fanny Hill..." was written by John Cleland sometime in the period of 1748-49. This fictional novel is not only a classic work of erotica, it is also considered a literary masterpiece. Written in the form of two letters from a woman named Fanny Hill to an unidentified woman addressed only as "Madam", it describes in an earthy, matter-of-fact, yet elegant style Fanny's early life as a London "woman of pleasure". Because its message is timeless, the reader will find it to have as much relevance today as it did when it was first published. Fanny's discussion of Virtue and Vice in the closing paragraphs is particularly poignant and insightful.
